Bear in mind that many of South Africa’s young people are so poor they cannot cover the cost of transport to their place of work, their accommodation or food and other essential items. While the stipends are intended to cover accommodation, transport and subsistence, they often don’t. To ensure apprentices or learners are productive and engaged, you might need to cover or supplement these costs.
