Step 2: Get workplace approval
Great! You’re registered with your sector education and training authority. (If you aren’t, you need to go back to step one).
The next step is to get your workplace approved as a site where on-the-job training may take place. Here’s how that works:
You need to submit a formal application for workplace approval to the seta you are registered with
Next, your workplace will be visited by a team that will evaluate its readiness to become a workplace where on-the-job training can take place. This should happen within 20 days of you submitting your application. The assessors will look at whether you have the facilities and the scope of work needed for the learners or apprentices you take on to get the experience they need to gain their qualifications
Your seta will give you written feedback. This should also come within 20 days of the visit
- If your workplace qualifies as one that can offer workplace-based learning, your business will be registered with the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations. You will get a letter (proof of approval), outlining:
The range of listed trades your workplace can provide training for
The scope of the work experience your workplace can provide
The total number of learners or apprentices that your business may take on at any one time
If your business doesn’t qualify as a place that can offer workplace-based learning, you will be given the reasons why and be told what changes you need to make so your business can qualify
After your business is registered with the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations as a site that can offer workplace-based learning, your seta will monitor your business regularly to ensure standards are maintained.
Good luck!
